Are you aware about Sleep Apnea?

Sleep Apnea is a common disorder in which the sufferer makes one or more pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep.

The pauses can last from few seconds to several minutes. They often occur 30 times or more an hour. Usually, breathing returns to normal sometimes with a loud snort or with a similar sound that a person makes when choking.

 

Most of the time, Sleep Apnea is a chronic condition that disrupts sleep. The person moves from a deep sleep to light sleep when there is a pause in breathing or when the breathing becomes shallow. For this reason, Sleep Apnea could be one of the main reasons why a person may feel very sleepy during the day.

When a person is sleeping, all muscles of the body are relaxed. This includes the muscles that help keep the throat open so air can flow into the lungs.

Normally, throat remains open enough during sleep to allow the passage of air. However, some people have a narrower throat. When muscles in the upper part of the throat relax during sleep, the tissues are closed and block the airway. The arrest in breathing is called Apnea.

Loud snoring is a symptom of sleep apnea notice, is caused by the air that slips through the narrowed or blocked airway. However, not everyone who snores suffer Sleep Apnea.

This syndrome affects 2-4% of the adult population in developed countries, simp more common in middle-aged men who are overweight, and in women who are past menopause.
